Chainset -

The crankset is the heart of the new 1x Ekar system, with its optimised gearing ratios, sensitively spaced across a wide range.

Of course, the single chainring is simple to use – no front mech, significantly reduced weight, fewer moving parts to collect dirt or clog, and providing high chain security, with no wasteful gearing overlap – perfect for gravel riding and racing.

The unidirectional carbon fiber cranks feature a strong, durable 630-grade steel alloy crank axle – following the maxim of smartly mating strength and light weight that is employed across the Ekar groupset. New ProTech™ technology joins the two semi-axles inside the bottom bracket, with a single, oversized bolt.

Oversized stainless steel bearing sit on the crank, fixed on the semi-axles, for maximum smoothness and strength – and easily accessible for inspection and maintenance without the requirement to extract the cups.

There are four ring size option:

-Adventure has 38 teeth

-Pure Gravel is 40T

-Fast Gravel is 42T

-eGravel 44T

Their narrow-wide design provides efficient drive and maximum chain security.

The light, strong 7075 aluminum rings are easily interchangeable – you can simply unbolt them from the four spider arms with no requirement for crank disassembly.

The four arms, which are asymmetrically set for optimal spread of the torque load, feature a 123mm Bolt Circle Diameter. Swapping rings is an easy and efficient way to switch out your gearing as you tackle different types of riding.

The Ekar crankset features four arm length options – 165, 170, 172.5 and 175mm – to suit riders of all sizes and styles.

For some gravel bikes featuring low bottom bracket heights, shorter crank arms are a popular choice to avoid grounding on loose and unpredictable surfaces.

A narrow 145.5mm Q-factor makes for a comfortable, efficient pedalling style, whatever your size.

The UD carbon arms come with neat, removable protective end caps, to keep your components looking like new, whatever terrain you tackle.

Cassette-

The 1x system works best for gravel, with the 13-speed configuration enabling that to work across a full range of gearing ratios – and what underpins that is the use of a 9-tooth sprocket.

The precise 13-speed Ekar is available in three gearing variants, reflecting the different specialisms within the diverse gravel scene, and each providing the smoothest gearing progression and the optimum delivery of range.

On all three options, single-tooth steps across the six smaller sprockets provide the most consistent cadence progression with smooth, efficient changes.

Gradually increasing wider spacing features on the larger half of the sprockets.

This delivers a natural riding experience and helps you get the best from your performance on testing trails and tough terrain.

The three options' more widely spaced top end provide the most compact set for loaded endurance events, and the longest for full-on adventure riders.

The bespoke cassette configurations are each paired with suitable – yet easily changeable – single front rings to provide maximum range, smooth steps and ultimate efficiency – and unlike 2x systems there is simply no wastage.

Two of the three cassette options feature a 9-tooth cog. Extensive comparative tests have demonstrated that the 9-tooth is as efficient as any 10 or 11-tooth sprocket on any system, with no additional friction across its narrow-wide teeth, so you don't lose any of the wattage you produce.

Each cassette is built on two blocks, split 4- and 9-sprockets for the configurations featuring a 9-tooth, and 3-/10-sprockets for the range starting with a 10-tooth.

For enhanced mechanical resistance, heat-treated carbon steel is used for the core of both blocks, and benefit from a nickel-chrome-satin surface treatment which reduces wear and friction, delivering the optimum durability for gravel riding.

It sits on a new freehub driver body – called N3W – that features on the lightweight carbon Campagnolo Shamal wheelset, with a wide range of compatible wheelsets to follow. N3W is highly versatile, featuring the same groove profiles as the classic Campagnolo body, but 4.4mm shorter and lighter.

With appropriate lockrings and adaptors, N3W is also compatible with all current and forthcoming Campagnolo 12-, 11- and 10-speed systems, with retro-fit kits including readily available.

As all current disc brake Campagnolo HH12 wheelsets are N3W-compatible you can easily update your wheels ready to run them with Ekar – switching wheelsets is easy and quick!

N3W is a patented standard for a freewheel body engineered to house 11-, 12- and 13-speed cassettes with 9-, 10- and 11-tooth starting sprockets: NEXT 3 WAYS.

It is also still compatible with older 9- and 10-speed cassettes. N3W has the same groove profile as the classic Campagnolo body but it is 4.4 mm shorter, making it lighter. N3W is directly compatible with the new Campagnolo cassettes with 9- and 10-tooth starting sprockets.

To make it compatible with ALL of today’s cassettes with 11-tooth starting sprockets, simply use the N3W ring (kit ring + ring code AC21-N3W) which makes them the same length as the classic body.

Rear Derailleur -

The Ekar rear derailleur is designed using Campagnolo's peerless experience and ingenuity which has been developed and honed over more than 80 years of innovation.

While the Ekar derailleur shares a heritage and research route with our Super Record and other systems, this all-new design has been created specifically for gravel, the dedicated 1x system and the 13-speed route that makes it so effective – underpinned by the use of a 9-tooth sprocket, enabling a full gearing range with short, evenly-spaced shifts and well maintained cadence levels.

The choice of technology, materials and designs are made to match and exceed the unique demands of all-road and gravel performance – to combine quick, precise, reliable shifting with high chain security, light weight, durability and toughness in the all-road arena.

A single rear derailleur design with mid-length cage is compatible with the varying sprocket sizes on all three cassette gearing options, from 9-36 to 10-44, perfect for every gravel requirement.

The parallelogram's 2D trajectory is specifically designed for the Ekar 1x system, with a full change of precise mechanical movement to activate the 13 sprockets.

Its pulley wheels with differentiated tooth-counts deliver optimum smooth chain running and high chain retention for security and peace of mind – whatever terrain you tackle.

The clutch, permanently engaged for enhanced chain retention reliability and minimal operational noise, can be locked forward for easy wheel removal.

There are more than 70 individual carefully designed and engineered parts in the Ekar derailleur alone.

Carbon fiber-reinforced polyamide and anodised 7075 and 6082 alloys are skilfully combined in Ekar derailleur's body and cage, for the best blend of strength, durability and light weight, for long-term reliable operation and withstanding the knocks, grit and dust of hardcore gravel riding, while stainless steel bolts are used for strength and long-term resilience in the toughest conditions.

Chain -

The new C13 chain is a vital element of the Ekar mechanical groupset; along with providing an efficient drive, in gravel riding a chain must work perfectly to contribute to the derailleur smooth, quick gear shifts, and always remain secure.

It must also be strong and durable – and the Ekar C13 chain delivers impressively on all fronts.

At just 4.9mm wide the C13 chain is 0.25mm narrower than the highly efficient Campagnolo 12-speed chain but delivers exactly the same high performance and durability that Campagnolo chains are renowned for.

The C13 chain mates effectively with the wide-narrow teeth design of Ekar's 1x13-speed chainrings and cassette sprockets for a positive, efficient, low-friction drive, and benefits from high security.

Despite its narrow profile, the C13 chain is very strong; its C60 steel inner links have a Nickel-Teflon surface treatment to withstand the higher rate of wear they are subject to.

They are pinned to the high tensile strength C67 NiCrMo2 steel outer links – a more resistant steel with a higher carbon content, coated with a Nickel surface treatment to withstand the greater mechanical stresses they face.

The whole chain, made in Campagnolo’s dedicated facility in Vicenza, is subject to a unique lubrication process, with an ultrasound bath system that ensures the special lubricant formula coats deeply and evenly in every part of every link of every chain.

The result is efficient operation and high resilience, providing longevity even in the tough conditions faced in off-road riding, with less demanding maintenance requirements.

The Ekar C13 chain is available in two options: Campagnolo Classic with the pin, or with the new C-Link™, for even easier removal and cleaning.

This offers versatility to match the diverse requirements of every kind of gravel rider, worldwide. Both versions are strong, efficient and made with the same materials and processes, but the new options give you more choices – whether you’re racing gravel, taking on long-distance endurance rides, or however you choose to enjoy all-road riding.
